Urban Design

"We take pride in our multidisciplinary approach effective communication and leadership"

Many of the major urban development studies undertaken by the firm have included planning and design proposals for new central areas. Many city centres of the world suffer from the problems of traffic congestion, pollution and poor infrastructure unable to cope with modern day requirements. In dealings with these areas the principal aims have been to improve the flow of traffic and upgrade the existing infrastructure and building fabric of city centres. In order to achieve this, urban design concepts have been prepared to retain the best of the existing centre and to make proposals for new development and re-development areas within improved transportation networks.

Experience has shown that too much redevelopment can destroy the social and economic life of an existing centre. It is important therefore to arrive at a sensible balance between conservation and development that allows traditional activities to continue and modern activities to be introduced without over–inflating land values and living costs. Shankland Cox has undertaken many central area planning and design studies for both existing and new central areas.
